In the Fall semester 2010, Utah State University will launch a NEW doctoral coursework emphasis in Mathematics Education & Leadership, allowing individuals to earn a PhD or EdD in Education with a mathematics education emphasis in the College of Education and Human Services. The new coursework in Mathematics Education & Leadership is for K-16 educators and leaders, and consists of six mathematics education courses as part of an emphasis for the doctorate in Education at USU.
The Mathematics Education & Leadership (MEL) emphasis in the EdD and PhD Programs at Utah State University will prepare individuals to assume positions in academia, school leadership, educational companies, professional organizations and consulting, and a variety of scholarly pursuits in mathematics education. Today there are more jobs than there are qualified applicants for many mathematics education positions, especially in higher education.
The USU MEL emphasis is currently recruiting candidates for the next PhD cohort (Logan campus) and EdD cohort (selected Regional Campus sites). The doctoral coursework for the sequence of mathematics education and leadership courses will begin during the 2010-2011 academic year. To begin doctoral study in the Fall 2010, students should attend an information session and submit their applications as soon as possible.
The Distance EdD program (at selected Regional Campus sites) begins a new cohort every two years. The 2010 program information is available on the USU Regional Campuses & Distance Education website (including cost information). Please take a look at the PowerPoint presentation that is posted on the site (click on the 2010 Cohort Information link).
